چکیده

Multiple mapping conditioning / large eddy simulation (MMC-LES) is a promising model for turbulence-chemistry interactions, successfully applied to simulate different combustion regimes involving gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels. MMC-LES attempts produce accurate molecular mixing by localising in an independent, composition-like reference space. In the MMC model, between two stochastic particles defined based on Lagrangian time-scale τL, which as ratio of subgrid-scale mixture fraction variance (fL′2˜) scalar dissipation rate (χL), typically modelled algebraically, fixed values global constants at all spatial locations. Accurate modelling τL essential towards predicting conditional fluctuations, otherwise highly challenging if same set static are used locations complex flames with varying extinction/re-ignition. Herein, fully dynamic (dyn-aISO) proposed within framework, dynamically evaluates fL′2˜ χL, essentially local coefficient variable turbulent Schmidt number, respectively, eliminating need specifying tuneable constants. This novel dyn-aISO pilot-stabilised Sandia flame series increasing extinction levels. The unconditional profiles compositional scalars from new compared those (st-aISO) uses constant (stCf-aISO). Numerical results timescale models deviate each other F having high jet Reynolds number. With improvement micro-mixing accurately captures transient behaviour complete series, could be obtained tuning role mass diffusivities, residual fraction, distance, predictions reactive also explored.

A generalised multiple mapping conditioning approach for turbulent combustion

This paper follows the evolution in understanding of the multiple mapping monditioning (MMC) approach for turbulent combustion and reviews different implementations of MMC models. As the MMC name suggests, the original version represents a consistent combination of CMC-type conditional equations (conditional moment closure) and generalised mapping closure. It seems that the strength of the MMC ...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Lagrangian particles with mixing. II. Sparse-Lagrangian methods in application for turbulent reacting flows

Both parts of this work present a more detailed and specific analysis of ideas introduced in the previously published letter Phys. Fluids 19, 031702 2007 . In Paper I Phys. Fluids 19, 065101 2009 , we show that the continuous scalar transport and diffusion can be accurately specified by means of mixing between randomly walking Lagrangian particles with scalar properties. Here, in Paper II, we d...

A Lagrangian Relaxation Approach for the Multiple Sequence Alignment Problem

We present a branch-and-bound (bb) algorithm for the multiple sequence alignment problem (MSA), one of the most important problems in computational biology. The upper bound at each bb node is based on a Lagrangian relaxation of an integer linear programming formulation for MSA. Dualizing certain inequalities, the Lagrangian subproblem becomes a pairwise alignment problem, which can be solved ef...
